Chapter 29

Samantha: Rose!

Samantha ran to her daughter hugging her.

Rose: Mom!

Rose hugged back and both women started crying.

Samantha: How did you ge- your eye!

Rose smiled a sad smile.

Rose: Let's go inside. We'll tell you everything.

Khalid, Rose, Samantha and Joe all went inside. Khalid and Rose started telling Samantha everything that happened since Khalid was kidnapped.

Khalid: Tomorrow I'll take Rose to a hospital to check on her eye.

Samantha: I'm sorry to hear what happened to you Joe. We'll take you back to your family soon.

Joe: Thank you, ma'am.

Samantha: Just call me Samantha.

Joe: Okay.

Khalid: Well, I guess we should go home.

Khalid said that and got up to call a driver. 

Rose: Yeah we should. I really want to rest.

Samantha: How about you leave Joe with me? I want to talk to him a bit more.

Rose: Joe is that okay with you?

Joe: Yeah.

Rose: Okay then. Good night.

Samantha and Joe: Good night.

The couple went home and each took a bath and tucked themselves in bed and slept.

The next morning Khalid woke Rose up.

Khalid: Rose. Rose honey. Wake up.

Khalid: We have to go to the hospital.

Rose: Just 5 more minutes.

Khalid: No. Come on wake up.

Rose: Ugh okay okay.

Rose woke up and went to the bathroom to do her daily things. An hour she was ready and went downstairs to find Khalid sitting on the table reading a newspaper.

Rose: Good morning.

Khalid: Good morning. 

Rose sat down next to Khalid and made herself a cheese sandwich with some orange juice. Khalid had already eaten breakfast.

Rose: I don't feel like going.

Khalid: You have to. I'm worried about what he did to you.

Rose: What if it's something that can't be reversed?

Khalid: Don't say that honey. Kl shii byd allah.

Rose: Wa n3m billah.

Rose finished her breakfast and both went to the car. Khalid drove through the gateand was on the way to the hospital.

Rose: I think you need to do a body check. They beat you up badly.

Khalid: Nothing's wrong with me.

Rose: Thanks.

A few minutes later they arrived at the hospital.  They asked the receptionist for an appointment with an eye doctor. They were told to wait for a few minutes in the waiting room. Each went to a waiting room and waited. 15 minutes later they were called.

Nurse: Rose Alx.

Rose: Yes.

Both Rose and Khalid followed the nurse to the doctor's room.

Khalid and Rose did as they were told.

Dr. 3adl: So Rose, tell me what's wrong?

Rose: A few months ago I was kidnapped with my husband. The kidnapper did an operation on my eye but I don't what he did.

Dr. 3adl: I'm sorry to hear that. Can you tell me which day exactly he operated on?

Rose: 3 days ago.

Dr. 3adl: I see. It seems we'll have to wait a few days until I can actually open the band aid. I don't want to wound your eye.

Rose: How many days exactly?

Dr. 3adl: Maybe 4-5 days later.

Khalid: Why not check now?

Dr. 3adl: It might do damage to her eye. Though we can see what kind of stitch the kidnapper used and limit our answers.

Khalid: Will that affect her eye in anyway?

Dr. 3adl: No it won't.

Khalid turned to Rose.

Khalid: Wsh rayk?

Rose: I'll do it.

Dr. 3adl: Okay. Just sit on that chair over there and I'll be there in a moment.

Rose did as she was told.

Dr. 3adl: Shelii 7jabk.

Rose lifted her hijab. Dr. 3adl started loosening the band aid slowly so he wouldn't hurt her. A minute later the band aid was fully off. The doctor didn't touch her eye or anything. He just gave it a look and sighed.

Rose: What's wrong doctor?

Dr. 3adl: Let the nurse band aid you first.

He called for the nurse to band aid Rose's eye. A few minutes later Rose came back and sat on the chair she sat on before.

Rose: What's wrong doctor?

Dr. 3adl: For starters the possibility of face distortion is minimal. I think he just did an eye plant.

Khalid: How could you define it that way?

Dr. 3adl: There are no stitches on the outside. More likely they're inside. Either that or he didn't really do anything. But we can't take that risk.

Rose: I think it's an eye plant.

Dr. 3adl: Why say that?

Rose: I heard him say that a golden eye would look good on me. And also .. he ordered one of his men to catch a golden eyed wolf.

Dr. 3adl: If that's the case, it's likely you'll live with that eye.

Khalid: Can't we re-eye plant a normal eye?

Dr. 3adl: That's not possible. Eye plant surgery is only possible to blind or near blindness here and rarely possible to normal sighted eyes. Just doing one eye plant is dangerous nonetheless doing another one? I'm afraid her body won't take it.

Khalid: If this eye was a wolf's, won't it effect her?

Dr. 3adl: I don't know. I have never seen a case like this to judge what could and couldn't happen. I'll give you an appointment one month from now. By then your eye should mostly heal.

Khalid: Thank you.

Rose and Khalid got up and went to their car.

Rose: -Sigh-

Khalid: Don't worry honey.

Rose: 2 eye colours. That would look weird.

Khalid: You're beautiful in any way.

Khalid picked up her hand and kissed her knuckles. Rose smiled and Khalid smiled back at her.

Rose: How old are you?

Joe: I'm 16 Ma'am.

Rose: So young! What are you doing here? You should be at school.

Joe: Not all 16's are in school these days.

Rose: They must have some reason. What's yours?

Rose: I'm sorry. You don't have to tell me.

She kissed her parents foreheads and sat down between them.

Rose woke up from her slumber. She was in the room she was before where Joe had took her.

Joe: You shouldn't get up. Stay down.

Rose: Joe.. what happened to me?

Joe:.. They operated on you.

Rose: What did they do?

Joe: They.. did something with your eye. But.. I don't know what it is.

Rose touched her face. She could trace the band aid and knew they did something to her left eye.

Joe: I'm sorry.. I couldn't do anything.

Rose: It's not your fault. What could you do anyways?

Rose: I'm not mad at you. If anything I'm happy you were here with me. It's better than being alone.

The door opened and came in Fala7 with Paul and Joe.

Khalid and Rose stared at Fala7. 

Khalid: What do you mean?

Fala7: Why what other meaning could it have?

There was silence. Khalid held Roses hand tight. 

Rose: Does that mean.. you're letting us go?

Fala7: Yes. Your car is ready outside. You're going to be driven to your house. 

After that being said, Fala7 turned around. 

Fala7: Joe is going with you too. 

Joe looked surprised at Fala7.

Joe: What?!

Fala7: You're free to go. 

Fala7 continued his way out of the room and through the halls. Paul turned to them. 

Paul: Follow me. 

And he started moving. Khalid got up quickly followed by Rose then started following Paul. Joe was standing at the door. 

Rose: Joe! Come on. 

Joe:.. Can I?

Rose: Yeah. 

Joe walked fast trying to catch up to them. They walked to the entrance and found a car by the door. 

Paul: Get in. 

They did as they were told and got in the car. Joe at front and both Rose and Khalid at the backseat. The car started moving as Khalid stretched his hand to hold Roses. 

Khalid: We're going home. 

Rose: Yeah, we are.

Rose: Nothing. I'm going to the bathroom a little.

Rose got up and went to the bathroom. Njoud and Shmoo5 looked at each other with sad looks.

Rose went to the bathroom. She walked to the sink and covered her face with her hands. She misses him so dearly.

Where was he right now?

Was he eating right?

Is he sick?

Is he so busy that he doesn't have time to call me? His wife?

-Sigh-

Rose washed her face with cold water. She needed to get herself together and be strong. She had to believe in him. He was her husband after all.

Rose went back much energetic than before. Njoud and Shmoo5 were a bit happier and sad. Happy to see Rose a bit better than before and sad knowing she misses Khalid.

Everyday their lifes were moving so routine-ish like. Until one day..

Shmoo5: ESH?!

Njoud turned to Shmoo5 worried.

Shmoo5 Shlon y3nii?!

Shmoo5: 5la9. We're on our way!

Shmoo5 shut her phone and looked at Njoud with tears in her eyes.

Njoud: Shfeek?!

Shmoo5: Rose..

Njoud: Shfeeha Rose?!

Njoud: Shfeeha 6yb?!

Shmoo5: Ma adrii ma adrii!

Both Shmoo5 and Njoud got up quickly and wore thier 3baya and hijab. They hurriedly called Njouds driver and went to the hospital Rose was. At the time they didn't care about their last class nor about what people would say about them skipping. All that mattered was Rose.

Njoud and Shmoo5 ran to the reception and asked about Rose's room. Then walked fast to it. Once in they say Rose laying on the bed with wires from her nose and chest connected to machines that were standing by the bed. On her left side was her mother and on her left was a nurse checking on the machines.

Rose's mother, Samantha turned as she heard the door opening. She saw Shmoo5 and Njoud standing at the door.

Shmoo5: Can we come in?

Samantha: Sure.

Shmoo5 and Njoud came in. They greeted Samantha. Shmoo5 went to Rose's side whilst Njoud waited for Shmoo5 to finish so she could see Rose and ease her worrying a little.

Shmoo5 touched Rose's hand. Her hands were cold. Skin pale and dark bags under her eyes. Shmoo5 kissed Rose's forehead then went and sat beside Njoud as she got up and went to Rose.

Njoud's eyes teared a bit as she saw her dear friend. She held her hand tight and squeezed a little harder. She hated how she couldn't do anything for her. She erased her tears before they could fall and went back to sit beside Samantha and Shmoo5. Njoud turned to Samantha and asked her what was wrong with Rose.

Njoud: What happened to her?

Samantha sighed and her face cringed a bit.

Samantha: Khalid still didn't call. She's going nuts worrying about him.

Shmoo5: Leeh ma tdgoon 3leeh?! Mahi 7ala k4a!

Njoud: Shmoo5 hdii!

Shmoo5: Bs yghr eni ashoof Rose k4a.

Shmoo5 said as a tear made her way out of her eyes.

Njoud: I know. Ana b3d mnghra bs shnswii?

Samantha: I'm really worried about Khalid. But I'm more worried about the baby.

Njoud and Shmoo5 turned their heads to Samantha shocked about what they just heard.

Shmoo5: Y3nii Rose is pregnant?

Samantha: Yes. I don't think she knows herself. The doctor just told me an hour ago.

Njoud: How many weeks?

Samantha: 8 weeks.

Shmoo5: That means right before he left.

Samantha: Where is he? What's killing me is that he doesn't call at all. He just called the first two weeks then.. it's as if he disappeared.

Njoud: Could something have happened to him?

Shmoo5: La bsm ellah 3leeh.

Samantha: Njoud la tfawleen.

Njoud: Mo jalsa afawl bs 9dg fkrw feeha. He disappeared two weeks. His assistant doesn't answer too. So something might happened over there.

Shmoo5: Don't say anything to Rose yet.

Njoud: It would be for the best.

An hour later Shmoo5 and Njoud went back home. Both were scolded by their parents for being late and skipping. But also were forgiven upon knowing what happened. 

Two days later Rose miscarriaged the baby and Khalid's whereabouts were still unknown. Rose was devastated. 

-2 Months Later-

Rose was kidnapped. A note was left in her room. 

"Don't look for her. We'll bring her back with her husband."

Rose's parents called the police and they started looking for them.

Rose woke up on a bed in an unfamiliar place. She tried remembering what happened but a headache prevented her from doing so. She rolled on her other side to find the back of a man she knew so well. Rose reached her hand and pulled the blanket. The man laying in front of her, covered in bruises and cuts. Old ones and new ones. Was her husband, Khalid.

Rose eyes teared. She covered her mouth with her hands trying to calm her sobs down. Khalid opened his eyes upon hearing a noise. He didn't believe what he saw. 

Khalid: Rose?!

Rose nodded her head and her sobbed increased. Khalid hugged her so hard to him. 

Khalid: I missed you so much!

Rose: I missed you too! Where were you all this time? I called but you wouldn't answer. How could you do this to me?

Khalid: I'm sorry. I'm so so so so sorry. 

Rose just hugged Khalid tighter, never wanting to let go. 

....: Oh I'm sorry to disturb you. 

Both Rose and Khalid let go and turned to the source of the sound. There beside the door stood a woman. She was somewhere near Rose's age. She had dark brown eyes and brown hair that went to her shoulders. She was a little tall and had a curvy body.

Khalid: Remas?!

Remas: Eeh, Remas ya Khalid. 

Rose: Khalid, who's she?

Remas: La ya Khalid. Ent 7ta ma glt lha 3nii? 

Khalid just glared at her. 

Khalid: Ma y7taj agoolha. He kant bt3rfk m3 el-wgt. 

Remas: Eeh bs mo knt btgoolha enii 56eebtk sab8n, 97?

Rose turned to Khalid looking for answers. Khalid just held her hand tight trying to reassure her. 

Khalid: Ma ankr ya Remas! El-klam elli kan ga3d y9eer klaam el-wald o 3mii Na9r. Yom kbrna 7na a54na 8raratna. 

Remas: K4aab! Leeh tk4b?! La tnkr enk tbeenii b7ytak!

Remas just fell to the floor crying loudly.

A man around Khalids age showed up beside Remas. He was tall, muscular and had brown hair and eyes. 

Remas: Ma y7bnii ya Fala7 ma y7bnii!

Fala7: Glt lk ho y7bk bs Rose sa7rt'h. 

Remas: Bs ent ma sm3t klaamh gbl shwii. Y3wr. 

Fala7: Ya 7beebtii enti elli tbeenh be9eer. 

Fala7 side hugged Remas and turned his attention to us. 

Fala7: Rose. 

After saying her name he just smirked and went out of the door taking Remas with him. Khalid and Rose sat there not knowing what to do. The feeling of joyness that they felt from seeing each other again after all this time was overcome by the feelings of fear that Fala7 and Remas left them with.

- 2 Weeks Later-

Khalid and Rose were sitting on the bed talking about all that happened these 4 months that they didn't see each other. Apparently, Khalid was kidnapped two weeks after he went to America for a business trip. He was tortured a little and beat up when he tried to get away. Rose told Khalid about her miscarriage. 

Rose: Why do you think they kidnapped us?

Khalid: I don't know. 

Rose held Khalids hand tight. She was scared of what was coming. Her gut told her something big was going to happen. 

Rose: How do you know Remas?

Khalid: Remas is my cousin. Our fathers decided they wanted us to be together. She went with the idea and felt as if we were really meant to be. But I didn't feel anything for her. She was like a sister to me. And nothing more. 

Rose looked up at Khalid with tears in her eyes. 

Rose: I don't want to lose you. 

Khalid looked at Rose with sad eyes. 

Khalid: You .. won't. 

Rose: Khalid?

Khalid: Hmm?

Rose smiled a sad smile. She knew at that moment what was going to happen. She just wished in secret that it wouldn't. 

Two men came in, interrupting their moment and took Rose. 

Rose: No! Let me go!

Khalid: ROSE!

Khalid tried taking her. One of the two men holding Rose Pushed her on the other whilst he started beating Khalid up.

Rose: No! Let him go!

Rose tried wiggling herself out of the  man's grip. But he was too strong. She was screaming her lungs out. Khalid was on the ground covered in blood.

Rose: *Sniff* Khal..id.. *Sob*

Khalid: Ro..se..

Rose: Please be strong! *Sob*

The two men dragged Rose outside of the room leaving Khalid on the floor injured and hurt. He tried hard to get up. He wanted to go to Rose's aid. He wouldn't forgive himself if anything happened to her. 

Khalid pushed his hand to the floor. Trying to get up. But he fell back to the ground. He saw the room moving. He couldn't focus on anything. He started to see darkness. And then, Khalid passed out.

Rose: Where are you taking me?!

Man 1:...

Man 2: ...

Rose: ANSWER ME!

Man 1: Shut up or I'll beat you up like I just did to your husband.

Man 2: Calm dow-

Man 1: Silence, Joe!

Joe: Falah is going to kill us, Paul. 

Paul: I've been here longer. I know Falah better than you do. 

Joe just glared at Paul. Rose found that Paul was here longer, more brutal and heartless than Joe. She was going to get any information she could find to get her and Khalid out of here.

Paul blinfolded Rose. 

Rose: W-what are you doing?!

No one answered. 

Paul: Wait here. I'll go get the keys. 

Joe leaned to Rose's ear. 

Joe: I'm sorry. Please forgive me. 

Paul came back. 

Paul: Let's go.

They started moving. Rose could hear a few noises but she couldn't distinguish what they were. 

Fala7: Welcome Rose dear. 

Joe unblindfolded Rose. Rose found herself in a big laboratory. There were all kind of machines and equipments. She saw a few animals in big tubes. 

Fala7: I see you're fascinated with my laboratory. 

Rose:.... 

Fala7: Awww don't be a grumpy one. You need to be happy. 

Rose: Who would be happy in this situation?!

Fala7: Why you of course. 

Fala7 turned to Paul who was looking at the animals. 

Fala7: Paul!

Paul: Yes Sir. 

Fala7: Get me a wolf with golden eyes. 

Paul: Umm, from where should I get one?

Fala7: That's your job to find. I want the best. 

Paul: Yes sir. 

Paul got out to finish his new mission. Fala7 turned to Rose and approached her closely. He reached his hands to pull a strand of hair from her face to behind her ears. 

Fala7: Gold will really suit you. 

Rose looked at him with a disgusted look. 

Fala7: Don't look like this. 

Fala7 cupped Rose's face and came so close to her that there were only a few centimeters between them. 

Fala7: After all, you're going to be my toy to play with. 

Rose looked at Fala7 with a terrified look. 

What was going to happen to her?!

I might not post for the next 2-3 weeks since there will be exams. But I will try to squeeze some time to write.

Rose: I guess you still didn't realize it. Once you do just call me.

And she passed me her card.

Latifa: Realize what? Don't leave me hanging!

Rose: I'm sorry. I can't say anything yet.

Rose went away. She looked so elegant as she walked. I kept staring at her until she left out of my sight. I sighed. My head was hurting from all of this confusion. I clutched my head trying to soothe the heading that was creeping to my head.

We got up, got our food and went back to our place. El-Jazii's back was toward the entrance and I was facing her.

Fahad came in with two guys on both sides to him. I nudged El-Jazii and she looked up to me. I shifted my eyes to where the guys sat. She turned so little and looked at them. She turned back and started typing on her phone. I could guess she was talking to him.

El-Jazii: Aklm Fahad.

Latifa: Wsh tgolon?

We stayed for an hour chatting then went back to El-Jazii's room.

El-Jazii's POV:

We stayed for an hour chatting then went back to my room. I was looking for my card when I saw something at the floor. I kneeled down and picked it up. It was a red rose with a small white flower tied in a dark red thin ribbon and a small card tied at the tip of the ribbon. I opened the card..

I smiled reading the card as my face heated up. Latifa elbowed my hips.

I turned to her to see her taking a video of me.

And I tried snatching the phone from her hand. She pulled back and went farther away from me.

And we both started running in the halls. Latifa suddenly fell on the floor. I stopped and bursted into laughter.

We heard a laughter from ahead of us. We both lifted our heads to see Fahad's friend. I think his name was 3z. This 3z guy was holding his stomach from laughter. His face is red and his eyes were tearing. I looked at Latifa and her face was red from embarrassment. She got up, came to me and held my hand, pulled me and stood in front of my door.

Latifa: Eft7ii el-bab.

I opened it quickly and as I got in. I could still hear 3z's laughter. Once we were in Latifa turned to me.

Latifa: OMG mra fshla ')! Amaana kill me now.

Her hands were on her face as her cheeks were flushed.

I closed the door of the bathroom and I can hear them talking.

I got out of the bathroom, wore my clothes and went to my room.

I was tired and wanted to nap a little. I went to my room, wore an over-sized t-shirt. I tucked myself in bed and drifted to sleep.

Life couldn't be better right now. I was on cloud nine. But it's boring here alone. And Latifa still has a week before she comes back. 3omar is busy with a few paintings he's working on. I decided to watch some TV. I saw a group of artists painting on walls. And I got an idea. I ran to my mother.

I took the card and called my driver to get the car ready. I wore my 3baya, hijab and my cross bag. I went out and got in the car.

Sha4a: Jareer.

I went to Jareer and bought the stand I wanted and the colour sprays. I went back and told Komar to set it up. I went to my room and wore something more comfortable. Then went downstairs and Komar finished setting up the stand. I brought a table and put the colour sprays on it and put my phone on shuffle. I took a pencil and sketched a simple horse.

I saw Mama, 5ala Njoud and Rose all turn to somewhere. I wanted to turn my head to see but it was as if my head was frozen. Until a sudden scream was echoed through the house.

I woke up in my bed sweating and breathing hard. I lifted myself up a little and tried to calm down a little. I got up and got me a bottle of water and drank it hurriedly. The cold water inside my mouth felt so good and refreshing. I decided to take a shower and refresh myself. An hour and I was done. I went to my parents room and knocked. But no one answered. I called them.

Latifa: Mama wenkm?

I went downstairs and looked for my sisters. After a quick search I didn't find them so I called Hayfa.

I went to the coffee and spotted them at the same table as before.

We spent the rest of the day walking through the streets and checking a few shops. We went back home at 10 PM. I BBMed El-Jazii telling her that our parents agreed about tomorrow.

After Hayfa and Samar slept I went to my parents room. I knocked the door and Baba answered it.
